Canton, NY – Junior
Jason Vela stopped a career-high 10 shots but visiting No. 19 nationally-ranked Cortland scored four second half goals to earn a 4-0 win against the SUNY Canton men's soccer team in SUNYAC action on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Dragons controlled play in the opening half outshooting Canton 15-1 overall including a 7-0 shots on goal advantage.
- Vela was impressive in the opening half making six saves including multiple high difficulty saves, while the defense also cleared a would-be goal off the defensive line. The teams went into intermission in a scoreless tie.
- Cortland got on the board in the 49th minute playing a quick give-and-go off a short corner. Matteo Kanakaris played it to Sebastian Olego who played it quickly back to Kanakaris who ripped a shot low towards the right corner to give the Red Dragons the lead.
- Three minutes later Cortland doubled its advantage when Shay Daly played a long ball in from the right side in the box to Dylan Pederson who headed the ball into the lower left corner.
- The visitors made it 3-0 two minutes later when Daly and Pederson hooked up again off a set piece with Daly delivering a ball from the far left to Pederson at the far post who headed home his second goal in just over two minutes.
- Cortland concluded the scoring in the 57th minute when Pederson started the attack from the defensive third finding Diego Rivera in the middle of the field. Rivera found Kanakaris near the top of the box as he played a quick touch and fired a left-footed shot into the lower right corner.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Pederson led the Red Dragons with two goals and one assist, while Kanakaris scored twice and Daly registered a pair of assists.
- Cortland controlled shots (29-1), shots on goal (15-0) and corner kicks (13-2).
- Vela finished with a career-high 10 saves besting his previous career-high of nine he had on two occasions at Bard (8/31/24) and at Clarkson (9/10/25).
