Women's Basketball Claws Back to Beat Albany Pharmacy 66-53

(Albany, N.Y.)-SUNY Canton clawed back late in the game to beat Albany College of Pharmacy 66-53 Saturday afternoon in Albany. The Roos wrap up the first semester at 2-6 overall.

SUNY Canton trailed for most of the first half and eventually found themselves down 30-24 at halftime.

Albany continued to lead for most of the second half over SUNY Canton who was coming off a tough game at Clarkson University Friday night.

But the Roos continued to battle and their hard work paid off as they finally caught and overcame Albany. Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) converted a three-point play with 9:23 left in the second half to pull the Roos within one at 44-43.

Three minutes later Jackie Sedlacek (Endicott, N.Y.) drilled a 3-pointer to tie the game 46-46-, the first tie since early in the first half. The Roos finally took the lead on their next possession when Lottie scored on a layup and after two straight misses by Albany and another Lottie basket the Roos lead was four points at 50-46.

SUNY Canton then converted seven free throws, four from Whitney Perkins (East Greenbush, N.Y.) in the final 2:30 of regulation to seal the victory.

Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) had 18 points and 11 rebounds leading four players in double figures. Lottie scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Sedlacek finished with three 3-pointers and 12 points and three boards. Julie Vander Wiel (Malone, N.Y.) added 11 points and Perkins ended with nine points, four rebounds and two steals.

Albany was led by Kelly VanValkenburgh who had 18 points and five steals. Nicole Izzo and Katie McCormack each added eight points apiece.
