Rachel Lowther joins the Roos volleyball coaching staff in her first season as an assistant during the 2016 season.
“Morgan and Rachel will be great additions to our coaching staff,” Head Coach Danielle Swanston said. “As a player Morgan was a huge part of building the program and assisting in its success. She has great knowledge and passion for the game. Rachel has spent the last four years with the team and has been a tremendous leader for the program, serving as captain during three of those four seasons. I look forward to her continuing those leadership skills. I am excited to see Morgan and Rachel’s contributions as they transition to coaching as we continue to develop our program into a power in the region.”
Lowther competed on the SUNY Canton volleyball team from 2012-2015, joining the program in just its second season. The Roos went an unprecedented 111-33 during her four-year playing career.
Lowther tallied over 300 kills during her career on over 1,000 attack attempts. She also provided a force at net totaling 79 blocks to go with 70 digs. The three-time captain was crucial in leading the team to their first regional ranking in program history during the 2015 season. The Woodbridge, VA native had a breakout senior season that included 153 kills, 44 digs and 32 blocks.
“Although I will be changing gears from a player of four years to a coach, I could not be more ecstatic to help out with the volleyball team,” Lowther said. “We have a great group of girls for the 2016 season and I can't wait to tap into all of their potential and create a team chemistry that is unstoppable.”
