Danielle Swanston enters her third season as Head Women's Volleyball Coach during the 2018 season.
The Roos have combined for 27 wins over Coach Swanston's first two seasons at the helm including winning the inaugural American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Tournament in 2017 with a pair of sweeps over Mills College and Alfred State.
Swansto??n served three seasons as an assistant coach before being promoted to head coach on May 24, 2016.
During Swanston’s three seasons on the bench as an assistant, the Roos combined to go 83-28 as the team had at least 27 wins every year. SUNY Canton competed in the USCAA National Championships during all three seasons recording a program best third place finish in 2014, Swanston’s second season on the bench. During the 2015 season, the team earned their first regional ranking and over Swanston’s three seasons the Roos have had nine USCAA All-Americans and eight members of the All-Academic Team.
Swanston spent the 2015 winter season serving as the head coach of the Clifton-Fine girls’ varsity team where she oversaw the entire program. Prior to joining the Roos coaching staff, Swanston competed for the first two seasons in SUNY Canton women's volleyball program history during the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Following her final season in 2012, Swanston was named a USCAA Second Team All-American. The senior was second on the team in kills averaging 2.21 per set, while boasting a .274 hitting percentage with 153 digs and 31 service aces. In addition to being named an All-American she also earned a spot on the All-Academic Team.
Swanston also earned a 2013 Chancellor's Scholar Athlete Award. In order to be considered for this award, student-athletes were nominated by their campus athletic director. Nominees' academic credentials and athletic accomplishments were reviewed by a panel of AD's from across the SUNY system and members of the provost's office.
Before transferring to SUNY Canton, Swanston was a two-year starter on the volleyball team at Herkimer County Community College. She was the 2009 team MVP and Co-Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year. During her sophomore year she served as team captain and was a Region III All-Star leading the team to the Region III championship title and an eighth place finish in the NJCAA D-III National Tournament.
“We have a great group of girls coming back and an exciting recruiting class coming in,” Swanston said. “I can't wait to build on the success that this program has had over the past five years.”
The volleyball team opens the season with a home tournament on September 2nd and 3rd. The Roos will open play on September 2nd against Bridgewater State University at 5 p.m. in the Roos House.
