North Country native, Trevor Gilligan enters his third year as the Roos Head Coach and first as a full fledge NCAA member during the 2015-16 season. Gilligan currently holds a record of 14-30-4. The Roos will feature a young, hungry team playing a full SUNYAC schedule.
“With the progressions our players have made this past season, accompanied with the collection of young men coming in the fall, I am extremely motivated to get back at it. We feel we’ve identified our needs, and are confident in our look on paper. Now it is our responsibility to turn paper into product, and have a lot of fun in the process.”
During the 2014-15 academic year, the group achieved the highest grade point average among men’s sports, earning a cumulative 3.3 GPA.
Prior to SUNY Canton, Gilligan spent five years at the Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY. In his time at Northwood, Gilligan coached all three boys’ hockey teams, was the boys’ hockey recruiting director, the Strength and Conditioning Coach and an Admissions Assistant.
Gilligan has also coached and evaluated at various New York State and USA hockey selection camps.
Gilligan earned his Bachelor’s degree in Wellness Management with a minor in Athletic Coaching from Oswego State. He was a member of the Lakers hockey team for four years and part of the Division III National Championship in 2007. He earned an Academic Award of Excellence for student-athletes every year and was named to the SUNYAC All-Academic Team in the Spring of 2004.
