    Volunteer Assistant Men's Basketball Coach

Andrew Pond, a former lead assistant coach at the collegiate level, enters his first year as a volunteer assistant coach with the SUNY Canton men’s basketball program during the 2021-22 academic year. 

Pond comes to SUNY Canton from Paul Smith’s College where he was the Interim Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Head JV Men’s Basketball Coach, and Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach for the Bobcats during the 2019-2021 season.

Prior to Paul Smith’s, Pond spent two seasons coaching at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake, New York where he was an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s programs. During his time at North Country, he assisted with recruitment and player development. Before coaching at North Country, Pond spent four years at SUNY Delhi as a student assistant men’s basketball coach where he was part of 2011-2012 team whose postseason run went all the way to NJCAA D-III Final Four. Pond also has experience coaching at various local camps and Hoop Group.

“This is an unbelievable opportunity to join Coach Senthil’s program and staff at SUNY Canton," Pond said at the time of his appointment. “I am blessed to be joining the SUNY Canton men’s basketball program to help continued growth and success this program has already established. I am looking forward to working with Coach Senthil, the rest of the staff and the student-athletes and using my background and experience to help assist in developing successful student-athletes within the confines of the basketball court and the community.

A native of Saranac Lake, New York, Pond earned his Master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University of Irvine in May of 2021. He also received his Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Delhi in Business and Information Technology Management in May of 2015 and a second Associate's degree in Recreation and Sports Management in May of 2013. He received his first Associate's degree from North Country Community College in Sports and Events Management in May of 2008.
