Bovee, Lopez and Vescovi Lead Roos Against Raptors

Annandale-On-Hudson, NY – In a tight defensive match, the SUNY Canton men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Bard College on the road Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams played solid defense in the first half with the Roos best scoring opportunity coming at the six-minute mark.  It was sophomore Demetrius Blake Jr. taking a free kick just inside midfield and freshman Santiago Lopez with the header on the doorstep of the goal, but goaltender Jake Sudit was up to the challenge, diving to make the save and keep the game scoreless.
  • Bard's Emmett Olson broke the scoreless tie in the 56th minute placing a header just past a diving freshman Braydn Bovee to put the Raptors ahead 1-0.
  • Sophomore Greg Vescovi had a brilliant long ball on a free kick that almost bested Sudit just under the crossbar in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper timed his jump perfectly to keep the Roos off the scoresheet.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Lopez, Vescovi and junior Christopher Guallpa all recorded shots on goal for the Roos.  Olson led the Raptors with two shots on goal.
  • Vescovi led all field players, playing all 90 minutes for the Roos.
  • Bard outshot the Roos 16-6 and had an edge in corner kick opportunities 6-3.
  • Bovee was credited with four saves while his counterpart Sudit made three stops for Bard.

The Roos hop back on the bus to take on SUNY Poly on Sunday, September 6th for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
