Blake Jr. & Bovee’s Efforts Lead Roos in 1-1 Draw at Sarah Lawrence

Bronxville, NY – Sophomore Demetrius Blake Jr. scored a first-half goal and freshman Braydn Bovee made five saves as the SUNY Canton men's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie on the road against Sarah Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos jumped on the scoreboard early in the first half when Blake Jr. outraced goalkeeper Jonah Zalis to a loose ball at the top of the box and finished for his first goal of the season to put Canton ahead 1-0.
  • That lead held until the 56th minute when Rhys Roberts knotted the game at 1-1.  Ryan Gunderson earned the assist for the Gryphons.
  • Canton had a chance late by freshman Cameron Ortiz, but Zalis was up to the task and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Gryphons had an edge in shots on goal (6-3) and corner kicks (5-4)
  • Blake Jr. has recorded at least one shot in each of the team's first five games.
  • Bovee made five saves and has given up just one goal in four of the Roo's first five games.
  • Zalis made two saves for Sarah Lawrence.
