Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's soccer team tallied goals from three different goal scorers, but two late goals by the SUNY Poly Wildcats allowed the game to finish in a 3-3 tie.  Seniors Summer Foster and Sydney Hoefer as well as sophomore Kate Whitley all scored for the Roos in their season opener on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both teams traded possessions early in a first half that saw the Roos outshoot the Wildcats (6-3).
• As the first half was coming to a close, the Roos were awarded a corner kick late and it was freshman Josie Macaluso collecting a loose ball and feeding it inside to Foster who buried her first career goal to put Canton up 1-0.
• The Roos carried the momentum into the second half with captain Sydney Hoefer battling through three defenders before placing the ball just past the outreached hands of Wildcat goalkeeper Skylar Blackwell to give her team a 2-0 lead.
• Kara Mertz was fouled inside the penalty area and converted on her penalty kick in the 69^th minute to narrow the gap to 2-1.
• The Roos responded as Whitley scored her first career goal in the 76^th minute, beating a defender one-on-one and depositing her shot in the top left corner to extend the Roos lead to 3-1.
• In the 82^nd minute, SUNY Poly's Abigail Hughes made a nifty move to split two defenders and booted a left footed shot past junior Mackenzie Ryan, making the score 3-2.
• Katelynn Meehan took a crossing pass from Madison Case to tie the game at three with just over four minutes remaining.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• The Roos outshot the Wildcats (13-9) and had an edge in corner kicks (7-4).
• Macaluso's assist was her first point as a Roo.
• Ryan finished with four saves.  Blackwell made five saves for SUNY Poly.

The Roos will be back in action on Friday, September 4^th hosting VTSU Johnson at 5 p.m. on the SUNY Canton Turf Field.
