Canton, NY – Junior Mackenzie Ryan made several spectacular saves to keep the SUNY Canton women's soccer team within striking distance, but it was VTSU Johnson who emerged from the match with a 1-0 victory on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Ryan made a pair of saves in the first half, including a beauty in the 27^th minute, stopping a shot in tight on a near breakaway by the Badger's Jenna Jones.
• Early in the second half it was Emilia Garcia who gave the Badgers the 1-0 lead, taking a breakaway from midfield before depositing the ball just past the grasp of Ryan.
• VTSU Johnson almost doubled their lead in the 60^th minute, but Ryan's diving save on a blast from Emilia Garcia at the top of the box kept the Roos within one.
• Ryan came up big again in the 68^th minute when she took on a charging Kayli Stapelfeld and maintained control through a collision at the goal line.
• Canton accelerated their pace, attempting to score the equalizer as the second half drew to a close but the tight defense by the Badgers held strong and the game finished 1-0 in VTSU Johnson's favor.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Senior Sydney Hoefer recorded the lone shot on goal for the Roos with Garcia notching three for the Badgers.
• Garcia's goal was assisted by Elizabeth Love and Marianna Merritt.
• Ryan made six saves for Canton and Sophia Johnson stopped one for VTSU Johnson.
