Cortland, NY – Korbin Lovejoy had his third-straight two-hit game, but the SUNY Canton baseball team fell to the Oneonta Red Dragons by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday at the Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides went empty handed in the first inning, but Oneonta scored two in the second with a double, a hit-by-pitch, and another double to get out in front.
- SUNY Canton had their chances early in the game but left a total of five men on base through four innings with the Red Dragons catching one stealing and turning a double play to help their starting pitcher.
- Oneonta added to their run total in the top of the fifth with a double and a single to go ahead 3-0.
- The Roos finally got some runs in the bottom of the fifth with Jaheim Robinson reaching on a single, then scoring after two errors. AJ Campi later in the inning had an RBI groundout to score Zack Baiani and make the contest 3-2.
- Unfortunately, though, the Red Dragons got their advantage back up to two runs in the top of the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly.
- The Oneonta lead expanded even more in the eighth with four hits and a walk leading to two more runs.
- Late game offense was not quite there for the Roos. Jared Paone singled in the sixth but was left stranded. Down 7-2 in the ninth, Paone walked and Jacob Ortiz was plunked, but the Roos were unable to get any hits in the frame as they fell by five runs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Lovejoy had two hits and is now up to six hits across the past two days after tallying four hits in yesterday's doubleheader against Plattsburgh. Chris McLean doubled in the loss as well.
- Jayden Cunningham got the start and pitched five innings for the Roos, allowing three earned runs from four hits. Karter Kenniston tossed a scoreless inning in relief.
- Brendan Duffy was the star of the show for the Red Dragons with three hits, two doubles, and two RBIs. Aiden Chartrand made the start and got through all nine innings in 108 pitches, surrendering just one earned run and seven hits.
- The Roos had seven hits with McLean's double the only one for extra bases. Oneonta had 12 with four doubles.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos will next have a three-game home series against the Fredonia Blue Devils with a single game on Friday, April 22, and then a twin bill on Saturday, April 23.
