Canton, NY – Danika Lalonde, a senior on the women's hockey team, and
Lateef Johnson Jr., a junior on the men's basketball team, have been named this week's Roos of the Week.
Lalonde had a hand in four of Canton's five goals in an unbeaten weekend to help the Roos clinch their second straight SUNYAC playoff berth. She opened the weekend registering the primary assist on Canton's first goal and then scored the eventual game-winner on the power play in a 2-1 win against William Smith on Friday. Lalonde closed out the weekend with another goal and assist as she assisted Canton's second goal and then later gave them a 3-2 lead on her fifth goal of the season in a 3-3 OT tie against Buffalo State on Saturday. Lalonde finishes the regular season third in the SUNYAC with 14 assists.
Johnson Jr. averaged 26.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game shooting a blistering 63.6 % from the field and 54.5% from three leading the Roos to a 2-0 weekend in SUNYAC play. He opened the weekend with a game-high 23 points to go with nine rebounds, five assists, a block and steal shooting 9-for-17 from the floor in a 78-68 win against Buffalo State on Friday. The junior followed that up with 29 points, nine rebounds, three steals, three blocks and two assists shooting 12-for-16 from the field and 3-for-4 from three in a 109-87 win against Fredonia on Saturday. Johnson Jr. finishes the regular season ranking second in the SUNYAC in scoring (19.8 PPG), first in rebounds (12.0 RPG), third in field goal % (54.5), third in total blocks (36) and fourth in total steals (46).
