Schoner & Lenihan Named Roos of the Week

Canton, NY – Niko Schoner, a senior on the men's hockey team, and Molly Lenihan, a senior on the women's hockey team, have been named this week's Roos of the Week.

Schoner had a monster opening weekend tallying six goals and an assist with a pair of hat tricks to lead Canton to an unbeaten start to the season as he set the Roos D-III era program record for career goals with 38. He now has 76 points on 38 goals and 38 assists in just 69 career games. He opened the weekend with three goals and an assist in a 9-1 road win at Misericordia. He had an assist on the eventual game-winning goal and scored three times, once in the second period and twice in the third period. On Saturday he scored three more goals including the eventual game-winner, all in the first period, in a 7-4 win at Misericordia. With the massive weekend Schoner now has four career hat tricks with half of them coming this past weekend as he leads the SUNYAC in both goals (6) and points (7) after opening weekend.

Lenihan had a big start to the season stopping 71 of the 74 shots she faced (.959 save %) as the Roos went 0-1-1 against a pair of top 15 nationally-ranked opponents. She opened the weekend stopping 44 of the 45 shots she faced (.978 save %) in a 1-1 OT tie against No. 3/2 nationally-ranked Nazareth, a team that appeared in last year's NCAA Division III national championship game. Lenihan stopped the first 36 shots she faced in the game and after allowing a goal stopped three more shots in the third period and all five she faced in OT to preserve the tie. Her 44 saves are tied for the second most stops for a single game in her career. On Saturday the senior turned aside 27 of the 29 shots she faced (.931 save %) including 14 in the second period of a 2-0 loss to No. 13/14 nationally-ranked Elmira.
