Women’s Basketball Clinches Three Seed in SUNYAC Playoffs with Win vs. Bengals on Senior Night

Canton, NY – Three Roos scored in doubles figures as the SUNY Canton women's basketball team clinched the three seed and rights to host a first round game in the upcoming SUNYAC women's basketball playoffs with an 84-55 win against Buffalo State on Friday evening. The SUNYAC playoffs begin on Tuesday, February 24.

The Roos recognized their five seniors Emma Perez, Jayda Pina, Marijke Kroon, Hope Aniceto and Abigail Rice in a pregame ceremony on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams struggled offensively in the opening quarter combining for just 15 points as Canton held a slim 8-7 lead after 10 minutes of action.
  • After an early bucket in the second stanza gave the Bengals a 10-8 lead, Canton went on a 14-2 run to open a double-digit lead at 22-10 after a Hope Aniceto trey. The Roos led by as many as 12 after a Chelsie Tyler three and took a 32-22 lead into intermission.
  • The hosts continued to control play in the third quarter outscoring Buffalo State 27-14 as their lead ballooned to as many as 25 in the quarter.
  • The Canton lead expanded to as many as 32 en route to the convincing victory.

 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Kat McRobbie-Taru led all players with 20 points and seven rebounds in just 23 minutes of action shooting 8-for-13 from the field, while Sierra Pabo tallied 17 points, six rebounds and three assists. Tyler tied a career-high with 10 points in just nine minutes of action making both of her threes and all four of her free throws. Aniceto tallied seven points and Rice and Perez added six each.
  • Mya Brown posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Bengals, while Tania Tyler-Wilson finished with 13 points.
  • Canton shot nearly 42% from the field and 29% from three, while the Bengals posted marks of 30% and 20%, respectively.
  • The Roos controlled rebounds (50-40), bench points (34-15) and points off turnovers (17-10).

The Roos close out the regular season on Saturday when they host Fredonia at 2 p.m.
