Barth Nets Second of Season vs. Union

Canton, NY – Gavin Barth scored his team-leading second goal of the season, but three first-half goals carried visiting Union to a 4-1 win against the SUNY Canton men's soccer team in their non-conference finale on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Garnet Chargers wasted no time getting on the board in the fourth minute. Logan Weitzmann dribbled down the far sideline playing a cross through the box that made its way to Eamonn Kelley at the far post who finished into the open net.
  • Union doubled their lead in the 21st minute when Gavin Blake tried to execute a give-and-go with Shane Crowley, but the ball deflected back to Blake as he ripped a shot from 30 yards out into the right corner.
  • The visitors tacked on a third goal in the 35th minute when London Abbott played the ball from near midfield up the center of the field. It made its way to Blake who one-timed a shot into the upper left from 25 yards out.
  • Union held a 5-0 shots on goal advantage taking a 3-0 lead into intermission.
  • The Roos got one back in the 54th minute after Union was whistled for a foul in their defensive box. Barth calmly stepped up and as the goalie dove to his left Barth placed a shot into the lower left corner to get the Roos within 3-1.
  • The Garnet Chargers concluded the scoring in the 74th minute when Diogo Charraz found Josiah Blake for his fifth of the season as a charging Jason Vela came out and Blake placed a shot into the open net.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Barth's goal is his team-leading second of the season as he now has four points on the year. Both of his shots on goal on the season have found the back of the net. Barth had two of the team's four shot attempts and their lone shot on target in the match.
  • Gavin Blake paced Union with two goals, while Josiah Blake and Kelley had one each.
  • Union held advantages in shots (20-4), shots on goal (9-1) and corner kicks (4-0).
  • Braydyn Bovee made two saves allowing two goals in the first 29 plus minutes of action, while Vela surrendered two goals making three saves in relief.
  • Michael Karcher did not make a save allowing the penalty kick in goal for the visitors.
