Grainger’s Double-Double, McRobbie-Taru’s 20 Points Push Roos Past Cardinals

Canton, NY – Kat McRobbie-Taru scored 20 points, Kate Grainger had her sixth double-double in eight games, and the SUNY Canton women's basketball team beat the Plattsburgh Cardinals by a score of 78-69 Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter was tightly knotted throughout with neither team leading by more than four points. The first quarter concluded with a 14-14 tie.
  • The Roos scored the first six points of the second quarter and looked good throughout. Sierra Pabo went on a stretch of scoring five straight points for the Roos, and SUNY Canton earned their first 10-point lead at 29-19 with 55 seconds left in the first half.
  • The Cardinals scored a whopping eight points in the final 45 seconds and got back into the game, making the score 32-27 at the half.
  • Plattsburgh earned the first four points of the second half and later knotted up the score at 45 with 3:20 left in the game. Jayda Pina and Pabo both scored late, and the Roos took a 52-47 advantage into the final 10 minutes.
  • McRobbie-Taru took over with seven points to begin the fourth quarter and SUNY Canton jumped back out to a double-digit lead at 67-57 with just under three minutes left.
  • The Cardinals were forced to foul late, and after some canned free throws, the Roos took the 78-69 victory for their 10th win of the season.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • McRobbie Taru, had 20 points, five rebounds and four blocks. Grainger had yet another double-double going second on the squad with 14 points, a team-best 10 rebounds, and four assists as well.
  • Sierra Pabo had 19 points including seven free throw makes in 10 tries. The Californian also had five rebounds, two dimes, and two blocks.
  • Plattsburgh had extremely balanced scoring throughout, with five players in double-figures. However, the rest of the team had only four and was 2-for-14 from the field.
  • The Roos outshot the Cardinals 42% (29-69) to 35% (26-74). SUNY Canton also beat the Cardinals in fastbreak points 14-6, and points in the paint 42-34.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
SUNY Canton will look to ride their momentum in the Route 11 Rivalry tomorrow, January 10 at 2 p.m. against the Potsdam Bears.
