Reese Scores 21, Quinn Nets Career-High as Cardinals Edge Roos

Plattsburgh, NY – Jahdeuir Reese was just one point shy of his career-high with 21 points and Sean Quinn netted a career-high 14 points off the bench, but the Plattsburgh Cardinals used a late game push to beat the SUNY Canton men's basketball team 84-76 Saturday.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Plattsburgh 84, SUNY Canton 76
  • Location: Memorial Gymnasium – Plattsburgh, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (4-16, 3-10 SUNYAC) | Plattsburgh (10-8, 7-5 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos trailed 19-18 after a three pointer by the Cardinals, but Quinn scored seven points in a 12-2 run to bring the Roos up 30-21 with just less than five minutes left.
  • SUNY Canton was ahead 38-33 at the break with Quinn going for nine early points.
  • A few minutes into the second half, Reese had a couple of buckets on back-to-back possessions, and the Roos had their largest lead of the game at 46-35.
  • SUNY Canton maintained their advantage for quite a while, but Plattsburgh slowly crept back into the game, and after an 8-0 run, the Cardinals found themselves in front 73-69 with just over four minutes left.
  • Quinn added to his career night with a three pointer right after this, but the Cardinals had a response and continued to score on just about every possession for the rest of the game. The Roos had some looks in the final minutes, but they did not drop in and the lead just kept growing for the Cardinals until they won 84-76.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Reese put in 21 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. The 21 points were only the second time the newcomer had more than 20 in a game with the other occurrence coming in a 22-point outing against VTSU Lyndon (11/15/25).
  • Quinn, who had one collegiate point coming into this weekend, scored 14 today and 11 yesterday against Potsdam in what was a fantastic weekend for the freshman. Lateef Johnson Jr. and Malaki Smith put in 11 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Reem Welch, who is the favorite for SUNYAC Player of the Year, looked every bit like the premier player he is, finishing with 36 points, eight boards and three assists. Him and Jaiden Gladney with 23 points combined to score nearly 75% of the Plattsburgh points in the win.
  • The Roos shot 42% on the night while the Cardinals were at 50%. Both teams attempted 66 shots, but Plattsburgh made 33 and SUNY Canton only made 28. The Cardinals connected on 11 three pointers while the Roos were at seven.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos will have six days off to prepare for the Oswego State Lakers coming to town on Friday, February 6 in the Roos House at 7:30 p.m.
