Reese & Johnson Jr. Net 17 Each in SUNYAC Tilt vs. Oneonta

Canton, NY – Jahdeuir Reese and Lateef Johnson Jr. tied a game-high with 17 points each, but visiting SUNY Oneonta had five players reach double figures in a 79-60 SUNYAC win against the SUNY Canton men's basketball team on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos roared out to an early 10-2 lead less than four minutes into the contest behind eight early points from Reese.
  • The Red Dragons responded with a 16-0 run of their own over the next five minutes to take an 18-10 lead with less than 12 minutes left in the opening half.
  • Oneonta extended their lead to as many as 15 in the opening half on two separate occasions. Canton closed the half on a 9-2 run to get within 39-31 at intermission.
  • Lateef Johnson Jr. and Reese paced the Roos with 11 points each in the opening half combining to shoot 9-for-17 from the field. Knox led the Red Dragons with eight points.
  • The hosts opened the second stanza with a 4-0 run to get within four points at 39-35 following a Bryon Streb jumper.
  • Canton trailed by just eight just over midway through the second half after a Jahmai Francois three-pointer. The Red Dragons used an 8-0 run to open a 16-point lead on their way to a 79-60 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Reese and Johnson Jr. led the way with 17 points each combining for 15 rebounds. Reese shot 6-for-11 from the field, while Johnson Jr. was 7-for-16.
  • Pat Evans led five players in double figures for Oneonta, while Cam LaClair recorded a double-double on 11 points and 10 rebounds. Delano Knox (12), Sam Booth (12) and Nate Cohen (11) also reached double figures in scoring for the Red Dragons.
  • Oneonta had the upper hand in rebounds (48-35), bench points (39-17), points in the paint (46-34), points off turnovers (17-11), second chance points (10-4) and fast break points (19-15). The Red Dragons shot 44% from the field, while Canton hit on 36% of its field goals.

The Roos make the short trip up Route 11 to square off with SUNY Potsdam on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
