Roos Open Pennsylvania Road Trip at Mount Aloysius

Cresson, PA – Senior goalkeeper Jon Bovair made seven saves in his team debut, but the SUNY Canton men's soccer team dropped their first road game of the season to the Mount Aloysius Mounties 4-0, Saturday afternoon in Cresson, PA.

THE BASICS
  • Result:  Mount Aloysius 4, SUNY Canton 0

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both Demetrius Blake Jr. and Lucas Damon had two chances in the ninth, and 12th minutes, respectively, but to no avail as both shots were off target.
  • Not long after, with just under 30 minutes left in the first half, the Mounties scored off a goal from Gonzalo Terricabris.
  • Mount Aloysius controlled possession the remainder of the half, holding SUNY Canton without a shot on net while attempting six shots of their own, three of which were off target while the other half were saved by Bovair.
  • The Mounties maintained their 1-0 lead at halftime, outshooting the Roos 9-2 at the break.
  • In the 48th minute, Mount Aloysius got some pressure that led to a shot saved by Bovair, but just three seconds later, the Mounties scored their second goal off the foot of Braden Callahan.
  • The hosts scored again in the 64th minute, but then the Roos ramped up the pressure at the 70th minute marker.
  • In a two-and-a-half-minute span, the Roos had three shots on goal, one from Blake Jr., another by Damon, and the third from Chris Escobar, but all were saved by Mounties goalie Sam Denchfield and SUNY Canton still sought out their first goal.
  • A late goal with just over four minutes left in the game sealed the deal for Mount Aloysius and they took down the Roos 4-0 at home.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Blake Jr. led the Roos with three total shots, one of those being on target while both Damon and Escobar also registered one shot on goal each.
  • Callahan, Terricabris, Nils Lindberg, and Levi Bryne were the four goal scorers for the Mounties.
  • Shots were 19-6 in favor of Mount Aloysius while shots on goal were 11-3. The Roos went without the corner kick while the Mounties had six.
  • Bovair saved seven of the 11 shots he faced while Denchfield made three saves for Mount Aloysius.

The Roos will stay down in Pennsylvania for a game against Juniata College tomorrow, September 7 at 1 p.m.
