Roos Shutout Wolves to Conclude Non-Conference Play

Keuka Park, NY – Hayden Brimelow and Markel Mosley scored goals and the SUNY Canton men's soccer team earned their first shutout of the 2025 season with a 2-0 victory at the home of the Keuka Wolves Wednesday, September 24 to wrap-up the non-conference season.

THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 2, Keuka 0
  • Location: Jephson Community Athletic Complex – Keuka Park, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (2-7-1) | Keuka (0-7-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos got some good early game pressure with shots by Owen Lebron and Christopher Guallpa in the ninth and 18th minutes, respectively.
  • At the 20-minute marker, Mosley swiped the ball from a Keuka defender, leading to a numbers advantage for SUNY Canton in the Keuka zone. The Roos found Chris Escobar on the right, and he located an open Brimelow cutting in from the opposite side.
  • The South African senior attempted to head it in, but Wolves goalkeeper Logan Karn made a diving save, however it deflected right back to Brimelow, and he put it in the net on the second attempt for a 1-0 Roos lead.
  • Keuka had a good look with 14 minutes left in the half, with Timothy Cowin firing a rocket from the top of the 18-yard-box, but Jon Bovair made his first save on the shot.
  • The Wolves had a few more shots with under 10 minutes left in the half, one on net, and one that missed the crossbar by about a foot. In addition, Keuka had two corners and a free kick in the Roos zone that SUNY Canton fought off.
  • The Roos ended the half with their 1-0 advantage and had a lead in total shots (7-4) and shots on net (3-2).
  • SUNY Canton was in command from the start of the second half, registering five shots in the first 15 minutes.
  • The Roos got something to show for their second-half dominance in the 62nd minute with a cross from the right endline by Lebron finding Mosley, who headed it in as the Roos were up by multiple goals for the first time this season now leading 2-0.
  • The rest of the half, the Roos were on point in all aspects of the game, winning all the 50/50 balls, controlling the tempo, and bombarding Karn and the Wolves with shots, going for twenty total shot attempts in half and holding Keuka to just two.
  • David Bermeo had two shots in the final minutes, including one that clanked off the crossbar and the clock ticked down as the Roos enjoyed their first shutout win of the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Brimelow, with the game-winning tally, had his second goal of the season while Mosley added his team-high third goal. Lebron's assist on Mosley's goal gives him a helper in three straight games.
  • Cowin for the Wolves had three shots, two being on target. Liam Davis and Patrick Smith had the only other shots on net for Keuka.
  • The Roos nearly doubled their previous season high in shots (14 – 9/3 vs. SUNY Poly) with 27, and 20 of those being in the second half. SUNY Canton also led in shots on goal (9-4) and corner kicks (7-2).
  • Bovair earned his first shutout as a member of the Roos, going 4-for-4 in save opportunities. Karn made seven saves on nine SUNY Canton shots.
  • Today's game was the first Roos shutout in exactly one year (9/24/24 vs. Keuka) and first road shutout since the 2023 season (10/21/23 vs. Cobleskill)
