Keuka Park, NY – Senior hitter
Brooke Hite led the way with 19 kills in a two-game span, but the SUNY Canton volleyball team dropped two games to the Keuka Wolves and the MCLA Trailblazers on Saturday, August 30 in the Keuka Tournament. Â
The Roos began the day with a matchup against tournament host Keuka where they narrowly won the first set 26-24, but dropped three straight sets 25-23, 25-17, and 25-19. In their second match, SUNY Canton lost both of the first two sets 25-19, won the third 25-16, but were defeated in the fourth and final set 25-12. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED

MATCH 1 - BOX SCORE
- The first set was about as close as can be with neither team leading by more than three points early.
- Down 20-17, the Roos were able to get five straight points thanks to two kills from Isabella Cruz and a service ace by Nadia Frigon.
- The Wolves battled back to take a 24-23 lead, but three straight attacking errors from Keuka gave the Roos a 26-24 win in the first set.
- SUNY Canton trailed 7-2 early in the second set, but a few points later got back into it with a 5-0 run to make the game 11-10.
- A service ace by Daycee Bane gave the Roos a 20-17 lead which was their largest of the set.
- After the Wolves tied it at 22, a kill by Hite made the game 23-22, but Keuka won the second set after scoring the final three points as the game was tied 1-1.
- The Roos were playing from behind in set number three after the Wolves started ahead 12-4 and then later 23-12.
- SUNY Canton made some noise by scoring five straight points, highlighted by a Madison Bigelow kill, but Keuka took the third set 25-17.
- The Wolves had a lead for the entirety of set number four starting off ahead 11-5.
- The Roos didn't go quietly, with a kill from Bigelow making the game 16-13, but the road team couldn't get any closer and ultimately dropped the set 25-19.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- Hite topped the stat sheet with nine kills (9-4-25) while Emerson Coulter was right behind her with eight. Coulter also added 12 digs to her tab.
- Frigon had 16 assists and two service aces while Bane and Cruz had 15 and 14 digs, respectively.
- Keuka outpaced SUNY Canton in kills (49-39), aces (11-6), and blocks (4-3). The Roos had 43 digs while the Wolves got 40 across the four sets.

MATCH 2 - BOX SCORE
- SUNY Canton started off ahead 11-7 in the first set against the Trailblazers, but a 4-0 run from MCLA evened the score.
- A service error made the game 17-16 in favor of the Roos, but then MCLA scored nine of the last 11 points, taking the first set 25-19.
- The second set was somewhat close, but the Trailblazers maintained between a four and a six-point lead for the majority of the set.
- The Roos trailed 22-16 late but then scored three straight comprised of a setting error, a kill from Bigelow, and an ace from Rylan Walker.
- However, the Trailblazers rattled off the final three points of the set to take a 2-0 lead with their second straight 25-19 victory.
- Facing the end of the line, SUNY Canton had by far their best set of the season in set three.
- After getting ahead 5-1, the Roos later got 12 of the next 13 points to get their way with both Kiley Zicari and Coulter having two service aces while Hite had three kills in this span as SUNY Canton held an 18-5 advantage.
- The Trailblazers got six points in a row late in the set, but the deficit was too much, and the Roos went on to win 25-16.
- SUNY Canton could not carry this momentum into the fourth set, as MCLA started up 13-1 and later 18-5.
- Kills from Cruz and Bigelow helped the Roos score four straight points after this, but the Trailblazers ended the game on a 4-0 run eventually winning 25-12.

- Hite led the Roos with 10 kills while Bigelow and Cruz had six each.
- Freshman setter Lauren Norman led the team with 14 assists and three service aces while another freshman, Walker had 12 digs in the game.
- The two teams were fairly evenly matched statistically with the Trailblazers having 33 kills to the Roos 32. The Roos won the number of digs (43-40) and MCLA had 13 aces which was slightly more than SUNY Canton's 10.
