Vazquez Leads Roos in Conference Opener at New Paltz

New Paltz, NY – Sophomore Eliezer Vazquez had two singles and junior Chris McLean recorded a base hit in the Roos first ever SUNYAC game at New Paltz on Friday. The Roos reached base four times in the contest but ultimately fell to the host Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos reached base in the first inning as Sal Diaz reached on an error.
  • The Hawks scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and one run in the bottom of the second inning to lead 3-0 after the first two innings.
  • The Hawks scored five runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth inning to open a 14-0 lead after four innings.
  • Vazquez singled to the center fielder during the top of the fourth inning with two outs.
  • The Hawks added two more runs in the fifth inning.
  • McLean singled in the top of the sixth inning but was ultimately left on base.
  • Vazquez added another single as the leadoff hitter in the top of the seventh inning.
  • The Hawks scored two in the bottom of the sixth to cap off the night.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Vazquez's two hits on the day now have him hitting a team-best .455 on the season.
  • Senior Hunter LaValley struck out three batters in three innings allowing 12 runs to take the loss.  
  • Sophomore Javier Chico pitched two innings for Roos while freshmen Anthony Favorito and Tim Vos finished the night on the mound for Canton.
  • Kiran Paingankar picked up the win for the Hawks tossing a complete game three-hitter with seven strikeouts.
  • The Hawks had 20 hits, six doubles and five homeruns in the contest.
  • Anthony Pericolosi went 4-for-4 with two home runs, two doubles, three runs and six RBI. Tommy Kreider and Fabian Apicella had three hits and two RBI each.

These two teams are back in action for a SUNYAC doubleheader scheduled for two nine-inning games on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
