Myrtle Beach, SC – Sal Diaz homered in the opener and combined for four hits on the day as the SUNY Canton baseball team closed out its Myrtle Beach trip dropping a pair of games to Penn State Schuylkill and Geneva College on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- The Roos got on the board first in the top of the second when Alphonse Fuca reached on a fielder's choice scoring Bradley Mills.
- The Lions responded with four runs on five hits and an error in the bottom half of the second.
- Canton tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth. Mark Maybee Jr. stole second and Mills scored for the second time of the game, this time on a throwing error from the catcher. Maybee Jr. later scored in the inning on a wild pitch.
- Once again Schuylkill responded in the bottom of the inning scoring five runs on three hits and an error as the Lions led 9-3 after four innings.
- The Roos plated three runs in the fifth to get within 9-6 after five. Diaz hit a two-run dinger to left field as Chris McLean scored on the homer. Eliezer Vazquez also scored on a balk.
- Schuylkill plated a pair of insurance runs in sixth for the 11-6 final.
- Diaz and Mills had two hits each for the Roos with Diaz driving in a pair of runs and Mills scoring twice. AJ Campi, Vazquez and Maybee Jr. had one hit each.
- Conner Licklider and Brandon Pupek recorded three hits each for the Lions.
- Owen Shoop picked up the win tossing 4.1 innings allowing four earned runs with two strikeouts and two walks.
- Javier Chico took the loss surrendering eight earned runs with two walks in 3.2 innings.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- Geneva jumped out to a 3-0 lead after their at-bats in the second inning with one run in the first and two in the second.
- Canton got on the board in the second when Derek Maldonado brought home Vazquez on a sacrifice fly to right.
- The Golden Tornado bats exploded for 13 runs over the next three innings leading to the 16-1 final.
- Diaz and LaPorte had multi-hit outings in the nightcap for the Roos, while Vazquez, Mills, Phillips Jr. and Edilberto Rosado each had a hit.
- Bradley McGuire paced Geneva with three hits and two RBI, while Kirk Bearjar posted two hits and three RBI.
- Dylan Rowe improved to 2-0 on the year tossing five innings without allowing a run.
- Lucas Gravlin was credited with the loss for Canton giving up seven earned runs with a strikeout and walk in 2.2 innings.

This concludes the Roos spring break trip to Myrtle Beach. The team is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday when they square off with SUNY Poly in a doubleheader at Gutchess Lumber Sports Complex in Cortland.
