Balanced Offense Leads Canton Past Delhi

Canton, NY – Five players scored in double figures and eight Roos scored seven or more points as the SUNY Canton women's basketball team cruised to a 95-51 non-conference win against SUNY Delhi on Sunday afternoon.

  • Result: SUNY Canton 95, SUNY Delhi 51

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos were firing on all cylinders offensively in the first quarter shooting over 46% from the field on their way to posting 30 points to take a 30-10 lead after the opening quarter.
  • Canton shot at an even higher clip in the second stanza hitting nine of their 17 field goals attempts (53 %) including going seven for 12 inside the arc as they outscored Delhi 28-11 in the quarter to take a 58-21 lead into intermission.
  • Natalie Bush led the Roos with 12 first-half points hitting three of her five three-point attempts in 10 minutes of action. Hope Aniceto tallied nine points, while Sierra Pabo and Chelsie Tyler had six each. Riley Schmidt paced the Broncos with eight points.
  • Canton doubled up the Broncos 22-11 in the third quarter taking a commanding 80-32 lead to the fourth.
  • Delhi held a slim 19-15 advantage in the fourth leading to the 95-51 final.
 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Pabo led all players with 14 points and added five rebounds, while Aniceto and Bush tallied 12 points each with Bush adding five boards. Emma Diehl and Kat McRobbie-Taru posted 10 points apiece while combining for 12 rebounds. Tyler and Jayda Pina registered eight points each, while Abigail Rice chipped in seven.
  • Mya Aiken was the lone player to score in double figures for Delhi.
  • The 95 points by the Roos are the most points scored for the team since they put up 105 in a 105-34 win against VTSU Johnson (2/10/24). The program record of 106 was set against the Badgers (1/5/24).
  • Canton doubled up Delhi 66-33 on rebounding including a 26-7 mark on the offensive glass which led to 20 second chance points. The Roos also controlled bench points (52-17), points in the paint (52-24) and fast break points (21-12).

The Roos will stay local for a midweek matchup against the Clarkson Golden Knights on Tuesday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m.
