Pabo Takes Over Late, Sets Career High in Women’s Basketball’s Road Win at Clarkson

Potsdam, NY – Sierra Pabo set a career-best with 28 points, and both her and Hope Aniceto scored the final 13 points for the SUNY Canton women's basketball team as they prevailed 74-63 over the Clarkson Golden Knights for their first road win on Tuesday night.

THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 74, Clarkson 63
  • Location: Alumni Gymnasium – Potsdam, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (3-0) | Clarkson (0-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos were only leading 11-9 with five minutes left in the first, but outscored Clarkson 14-6 the rest of the quarter, led by Kat McRobbie-Taru who had five points in this span. The first quarter ended with SUNY Canton holding a 23-15 advantage.
  • Natalie Bush nailed home a three 10 seconds into the second quarter to give the Roos their first double-figure lead at 26-15. Scoring was fairly even the rest of the half and SUNY Canton took to the locker room ahead 40-31.
  • Clarkson had a fast start to the third quarter and trimmed the Roos lead to 44-39 less than three minutes into the third quarter, but SUNY Canton instantly responded with a 7-0 run started by a McRobbie-Taru and-one jumper and finished with a Pabo three to earn their largest lead of the night at 51-39.
  • The Golden Knights though were resilient, finishing the quarter strong as the Roos led 56-49 with 10 minutes remaining.
  • Both teams struggled scoring to begin the fourth quarter, but Clarkson earned the first five points to make it 56-54 with six minutes remaining. It was later 61-58 with four minutes left on the timer, but that was the time to shine for Pabo and Aniceto.
  • Pabo had five points and Aniceto had a nice driving layup as the Roos scored seven of the next nine points to pull ahead 68-60 with 2:43 left.
  • Clarkson struggled to put the ball in the hoop late and were forced to foul. Pabo knocked down some free throws to add to her already big night, and the Roos prevailed by 11 on the road.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Pabo's 28 points were a career-high for the junior from California who had scored 27 on two previous occasions. The captain had nine points in the final 3:35 and also chipped in eight rebounds and two assists.
  • McRobbie-Taru pitched in 17 points, eight rebounds, and three steals while Aniceto scored 14.
  • Fallon Griffin, Bella Doyle, and Kate Campbell were all in double-figures for Clarkson with Griffin leading the way at 17.
  • Clarkson outplayed SUNY Canton in many categories shooting 41% from three (10-24) while the Roos were at just 33% (6-18). The Golden Knights also had more rebounds (34-31), assists (16-10), and bench points (27-8), but could not take care of the ball committing 17 turnovers while the Roos were spectacular in that department at only four.
