Pavlasova Scores Pair in Win Over MCLA

Canton, NY – Junior Anna Pavlasova scored a pair of power play goals to help lead the the SUNY Canton women's hockey team to a 5-0 victory over the MCLA Trailblazers on Saturday afternoon.
 
THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 5 | MCLA 0

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • After a scoreless first period, the Roos got on the board at the 2:51 mark with senior Danika Lalonde tucking home a rebound off a Riley Andzel shot to give the Roos a 1-0 lead.  The goal was scored on the power play and was also assisted by senior Lucy Beal.
  • Midway through the second period senior Ashten Morris slammed home a cross ice pass from freshman Izzy Bourgeault to put Canton on top 2-0.  Senior Sydney Valiquette earned the secondary assist.
  • Pavlasova scored her power play marker at 16:42 of the middle frame, wristing a shot from the slot over the goaltender's outstretched glove.  Lalonde and Beal both assisted on the play.
  • Freshman Taylor Stoll continued her strong weekend, deflecting a point shot from senior Asha Hanson and into the net at the 9:42 mark of the third period.
  • Pavlasova closed out the scoring in the waning moments of the period, sniping a shot top corner to earn her second power play goal of the game and giving the Roos the 5-0 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • This was Pavlasova's first multi-goal game of her career and gives her five points on the season.
  • Lalonde finished the game with a goal and two assists while Beal earned three assists on the afternoon.
  • Canton's power play was red hot, going 3 for 4 with the extra skater.
  • The Roos had a significant edge at the faceoff dot, winning 45 of 58 draws.
  • Freshman Clara Rayner earned the shutout, saving all six shots she faced in her rookie debut.
  • Katherine Moose took the loss but made an impressive 57 saves.

The Roos host Morrisville in their SUNYAC opener on Friday, November 14th at 3:00 p.m.  The game kicks off Hockey Reunion Weekend and the game is followed by the men's game against SUNY Potsdam at 7:00 p.m.
