McRobbie-Taru and Grainger Record Double-Doubles in Road Win at Russell Sage

Albany, NY – Kat McRobbie-Taru and Kate Grainger combined for 36 points and 24 rebounds as the duo both recorded double-doubles in a 72-51 road win at Russell Sage on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos jumped out to an early 10-5 led midway through the first quarter after a made jumper from Sierra Pabo. Sage responded with a 9-1 run to take a 14-11 lead with 1:39 left in the opening quarter. A late McRobbie-Taru three tied things at 14 apiece after 10 minutes of play.
  • The hosts started the second stanza on a 4-0 run, but Canton responded scoring 19 of the next 25 points to take a 33-24 lead after a Pabo three-pointer. The Roos took a 33-28 lead into intermission.
  • McRobbie-Taru paced Canton with 13 points and seven rebounds in the first half, while Layla Acosta supplied 12 first-half points for the Gators.
  • Canton dominated play in the third quarter outscoring Sage 22-9 as they forced the Gators to cough the ball up nine times in the quarter.
  • The Roos continued to control play in the fourth quarter never letting the hosts get back in the game en route to the 72-51 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • McRobbie-Taru led the Roos with a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds shooting 8-for-15 from the field, while Pabo added 18 points and six rebounds. Kate Grainger also registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds to go with three steals.
  • Grainger's double-double is her second in as many games to start her season, while McRobbie-Taru also has a pair of double-doubles this season.
  • Kallie Hopkins paced Sage with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Acosta finished with 16 points and Emily Zeh added nine points and seven rebounds.
  • Canton shot 36% from the field while holding the Gators to 27% shooting.
  • The Roos turned 25 Sage turnovers into a 25-10 advantage in points off turnovers. Canton also controlled points in the paint (42-24) and fast break points (17-0).
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos have a little over a week off for Thanksgiving before they return to the court on Monday, December 1st for a home non-league game against Bryant & Stratton College Syracuse at 6 p.m.
