THE BASICS
- Result: SUNY Canton 64, SUNY Poly 39
- Location: Kevin Grimmer Court – Utica, NY
- Records: SUNY Canton (4-0) | SUNY Poly (2-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a slow shooting start from the Roos as they found themselves trailing 9-0 early until Grainger made a three with 4:53 left in the first half as the first points for the road team.
- SUNY Canton got after it defensively around this time, forcing turnovers by the Wildcats on six straight possessions and using these turnovers to later take the lead 10-9 with Hope Aniceto draining a three to get the Roos into double-digits.
- SUNY Canton led 12-11 at the conclusion of the first quarter with Aniceto leading the way with five points.
- The stellar defense from the Roos continued into the second quarter, as SUNY Poly's shot clock was running low seemingly every possession. This allowed the Roos to go on a 10-2 run to start the quarter, and a little later, get their lead up to 11 with 3:02 left in the half.
- The half ended with a 29-19 SUNY Canton advantage. Grainger, in just her first game of the season, scored seven points in the second quarter and led the Roos with 10 at the break.
- The lead for SUNY Canton swelled even more after a 7-0 run to begin the half gave them a 36-19 lead just a little more than two minutes in.
- The Wildcats made a bit of a run later in the quarter, scoring seven straight points to bring it within single-digits at 39-30 but the Roos finished the quarter strong with both Grainger and Natalie Bush scoring three points each as SUNY Canton got their lead back up to 45-31 at the end of the third.
- The Roos offense was a little slow out of the gates in the fourth quarter but later scored 11 points in a 3:03 span to balloon their lead beyond to 20, 59-37.
- The Roos scored 14 of the final 18 points of the game to earn the 25-point victory at 64-39.
