Roos Battle Bears in Boyd Cup

Postdam, NY – A strong first half defensive effort kept the SUNY Canton women's soccer team in the game early but four second half goals gave SUNY Potsdam a 5-0 SUNYAC victory on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alana Cunningham opened the scoring for the Bears in the 16th minute with assists going to Madison Wagner and Jaidan Kertenis.
  • The Roos limited Potsdam to just two additional shots on goal for the remainder of the half.
  • Wagner scored on a penalty kick to put the Bears up 2-0 in the 60th minute.
  • Potsdam scored two additional goals over the next 10 minutes and Morgan Williams closed out the scoring in the 85th minute to give the Bears the 5-0 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Cunningham and Wagner finished with one goal and one assist each to lead all scorers.
  • The Bears held the advantage in shots (14-0), shots on goal (9-0) and corner kicks (14-0).
  • Sophomore Mackenzie Ryan made four saves for the Roos.
  • Megan Fry and Caroline Vines combined for the shutout for Potsdam.
With the win SUNY Potsdam retains the Boyd Jones Cup, which is in its 15th year of being played to honor Jones, who was previously the Sports Information Director at both SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam.

The Roos will return home this weekend for Senior Day on Saturday, October 11 at the SUNY Canton Turf Field. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. with festivities right before.
