THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 2, SUNY Potsdam 0
  • Location: SUNY Canton Turf Field – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (3-10-1, 1-3-0 SUNYAC) | SUNY Potsdam (4-6-1, 0-4-0 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team had many quality scoring chances in the opening half. The Roos best opportunity came when the Bears were whistled for a foul just outside the box with seven minutes left in the opening half, but the ensuing free kick sailed high.
  • Potsdam owned a 3-1 shots on goal advantage in the opening half but three saves from Raap kept the game scoreless at intermission. Thomas Wende had three total shots with one on target for the visitors in the opening 45 minutes.
  • The Roos came out of intermission with momentum early as they scored a pair of goals less than three minutes apart. In the 56th minute Escobar received a pass from Owen Lebron and took dribbles into open space, faking out a defender and firing a shot from roughly 23 yards out into the lower left corner to give the Roos a 1-0 lead.
  • Less than three minutes later Greg Vescovi controlled the ball forward to David Bermeo who played a beautiful ball just over a defender to Blake Jr. at the top of the box. He collected the ball and placed a shot into the right side of net to double the Canton lead.
  • The Roos continued to generate a number of quality scoring chances owning the better of the opportunities in the second half as Raap completed the shutout for the Roos.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Bears held slim margins in shots (13-11), shots on goal (7-6) and corner kicks.
  • Raap finished with seven saves in his first shutout of the season.
  • James Kelm turned aside four shots in defeat for the Bears.
  • The Roos earned their first ever win against the Bears in men's soccer as they were 0-8-1 against Potsdam since becoming full NCAA Division III members in the fall of 2015.
