HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos were on the back foot most of the game, with New Paltz scoring the first goal in the 11th minute. Brooke Kelleher cut in from the baseline and found Mia Baldinger near the top of six-yard-box for the one-timer into the back of the Roos net.
- SUNY Canton struggled and kept getting pinned back in their zone, leading to two more goals in the first half from the Hawks in the 22nd minute and the 39th minute.
- New Paltz got going again in the final seconds, but Ryan made a jumping save on a shot with four seconds left to play in the half to preserve the three-goal Hawk lead into the break.
- New Paltz did not let up at all in the second half and continued to fire shots on Ryan and the Roos. The Hawks broke through around 12 minutes into the second half, scoring three goals in a 3:03 span.
- The Roos best chance was in the 67th minute, when a foul by the Hawks gave a SUNY Canton a free kick. The Roos won a corner kick shortly thereafter, and despite a decent ball, SUNY Canton failed to win possession or get a shot off.
- New Paltz tacked on one more goal late, and the final buzzer sounded with the Hawks winning by a touchdown.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Both Baldinger and Samantha Gemmo had two-goal performances for New Paltz. Addison Weiner had a goal, a helper, plus a team-high six shots.
