Canton, NY – A trio of freshmen helped lead the SUNY Canton women's volleyball team to a sweep (25-17, 25-19, 25-22) over visiting Paul Smith's Wednesday evening at the Roos House.
Emerson Coulter scored a team-high seven kills,
Josie Gabriel added four more and
Emma Baker recorded seven digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos sprinted out to a quick 4-0 lead capped by a kill from Coulter. Another rally by Canton, including back-to-back aces by senior Sarah Balcom, put the hosts up 9-2. A kill by the Bobcat's Kaliyah Davis closed the gap to 18-14 but the Roos extended their lead and took the set 25-17, capped by senior Sammie Frank's ace.
- After trading points early in the second, Canton jumped ahead 15-8 on a kill by Frank. The Bobcats clawed back to make the score 20-18 off a Davis kill. But the Roos scored five of the next six, including the final point on a kill by Gabriel, taking the set 25-19.
- The third set was back-and-forth with Canton tying the set at seven all on a Brooke Hite kill. Hite would tie the game again at 13-13 on a service ace. Paul Smith's would take a slim 18-17 lead before the Roos rattled off six straight to lead 23-18. The Bobcats made things interesting, pulling within one point at 23-22 but Canton would close the game and match out 25-22 on a kill by freshman McKenna Pelech.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Coulter led the Roos with seven kills followed by Balcom's six, Hite's five and Gabriel's four. Davis led the Bobcats with eight.
- Five Roos were tied with two aces each. Finnley Jacobson had five for Paul Smith's
- Baker paced Canton with seven digs, Davis led the Bobcats with 11.
