Williams Sets Single-Game Saves Record as Women’s Soccer Ties Elmira

Elmira, NY – Skylar Williams made a single-game SUNY Canton D-III era record 24 saves and Sydney Hoefer scored her first career goal to lead the SUNY Canton women's soccer team to a 1-1 draw at Elmira College on Wednesday.

Williams broke the previous single-game save mark set by Victoria Hanna who turned aside 22 shots on October 29, 2019 at Plattsburgh State.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Soaring Eagles controlled a majority of the opportunities in the opening half outshooting the Roos 20-3 overall including a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Skylar Williams had a huge first half in net stopping all 12 shots she faced to keep the game scoreless at intermission.
  • Elmira got on the board first in the 52nd minute. Faith Ingber drilled a shot off the crossbar and the rebound deflected right to Piper Andrews who buried the rebound into the open left side of net.
  • The Roos found the equalizer in the 73rd minute when Chamonix Jackson's initial shot was turned aside by Elmira keeper Nevaeh Winston. However, Hoefer was in perfect position placing a shot into the open net for her first career goal to knot things up at one.
  • Williams continued to have a remarkable game in net stopping 12 more shots in the second half to preserve the 1-1 tie.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
