Williams Records 23 Saves, Cary Two Shots on Goal Against Clarkson

Canton, NY – Skylar Williams made 23 saves and Andrea Cary nearly scored twice but visiting Clarkson University controlled play in a 6-0 win against the SUNY Canton women's soccer team on Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Clarkson 6, SUNY Canton 0
  • Location: SUNY Canton Turf – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (1-2-2) | Clarkson (2-2-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It didn't take Clarkson long to get on the board as Emma Robinson found the back of the net 2:17 in. Maddie Lopol threw the ball into Robinson who immediately turned and roofed a shot short side high past Williams.
  • Sixteen minutes into the game Canton had a pair of tremendous scoring opportunities back-to-back. Kamryn Barnes played a beautiful cross in from the right corner that was redirected out in front by Chamonix Jackson and made its way to Cary near the left post. Her shot was blocked out in front by a Knight defender that saved a goal.
  • Mayella Rubin took the ensuing corner kick from the left side and found Cary once again at the near post as she tried to volley the ball into the net. The ball appeared very close to crossing the goal line before another Clarkson defender cleared the ball off the line.
  • Clarkson doubled their lead in the 23rd minute when Robinson scored her second of the game. Callie Abel played a cross in from the right corner as Robinson one-timed a shot in high in the center of goal.
  • The Knights made it 3-0 just before halftime when Brooke Butler received a pass near the top of the box, turned and made a nifty move blasting a left-footed shot high past a diving Williams.
  • Clarkson held a 14-2 shots on goal advantage and took a 3-0 lead into intermission.
  • The Knights tacked on a second half goal in the 82nd minute off a set piece. Riley Irvin took a free kick that was headed forward by Chloe Hodge to Lillian Gillett who finished into the back of the net.
  • Hodge added her second goal of the night three minutes later and the Knights tacked on another late goal off the foot of Jamie Dahlgard from long range.
