Barnes and Jackson Lead Roos to 2-0 Win vs. Cobleskill

Utica, NY – Kamryn Barnes and Chamonix Jackson tallied a goal and assist each to lead the SUNY Canton women's soccer team to a 2-0 win against SUNY Cobleskill in the consolation game of the SUNY Poly Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
 
New SUNY Canton Head Coach Matt Milograno earned his first career win in his second game at the helm of the Roos.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos got on the board first in the 24th minute when Barnes played a beautiful through ball to a cutting Jackson who one-timed a right-footed shot into the left corner of the goal first her first career score.
  • SUNY Canton held a 6-1 shots on goal advantage in the opening half taking a 1-0 lead into intermission.
  • Canton doubled its lead nearly 10 minutes into the second half. Off a Cobleskill punt in their own end Jackson played a perfect header to Barnes in open space on a breakaway as she buried a shot into the left corner of goal for the 2-0 lead. It was the first career tally for Barnes as well.
  • Barnes nearly added her second score of the game with just over two minutes remaining when her left-footed shot cranked off the left post.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Roos dominated shots (15-3), shots on goal (11-2) and corner kicks (7-5).
  • Barnes led Canton with six shots on goal, while Jackson had three. Gabbie Flynn and Hailey Hassos registered on shot on target each.
  • Skylar Williams recorded a two save shutout. Dory Gosselin made nine saves for Cobleskill.
 

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Wednesday when they visit Elmira College at 4 p.m.
