Roos Open Season at Mount St. Mary

Newburgh, NY – A solid defensive effort in the second half wasn't enough for the SUNY Canton men's soccer team, who dropped their season-opening match against Mount St. Mary College 3-0 on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mount St. Mary took an early 1-0 lead, just 1:08 into the game, after a Knight's corner kick was directed to Marco Mazzarelli who headed the ball just past the grasp of Roos freshman goaltender Nolan Sullivan.
  • Mazzarelli scored his second of the night at 8:09, deflecting a pass in traffic past Sullivan.
  • Mazzarelli capped the hat trick at 23:04 of the half on a penalty kick.
  • The Roos defense stiffened in the second half, allowing just two shots on goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Freshman Markel Mosley registered two shots on goal for the Roos, with junior Mason Holmes adding one more.
  • Sullivan finished the game with eight saves while Ceasar Martinez made all three stops for the Knights to earn the win and shutout.

The Roos travel to play Bard College tomorrow, Saturday August 31st at 2 p.m.
