Ferrucci Records Four Hit Day as Softball Opens NAC Play vs. Cobleskill

Canton, NY – Talor Ferruci recorded two hits in each game as the SUNY Canton softball team opened NAC play dropping a pair of contests to visiting SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • Cobleskill got on the board first scoring two runs each in the first and second innings and added three in the third.
  • The Roos got one back in the fifth when Caitlyn Reed scored Sophia Gundersen on an RBI double to right center.
  • The Tiger bats exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning, four of which were unearned, to blow open a 15-1 lead.
  • Canton added a second run in the bottom of the sixth when Ace Rodgers plated Torie Moore on an RBI ground out.
  • Reed and Ferrucci had two hits each for the Roos, while Sarah Balcom, Emma Hayes, Moore, Rogers and Gundersen had one each.
  • Kylie Rattigan and Alexis Miranda combined for five hits and 6 RBI, while Alexia Clemons and Jenna Smyczynski had a hit and two RBI each.
  • Jaydaci Cham picked up the win on the mound for Cobleskill throwing a complete game allowing one earned run with four strike outs and a walk in six innings.
  • Caitlyn Reed was credited with the loss allowing 10 earned runs with 11 walks in six innings.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
 
  • The Tigers scored at least one run in every inning except the third and seventh innings in the nightcap. Cobleskill plated one run each in the first, second and fourth innings and two each in the fifth and sixth innings.
  • Ferrucci led Canton with two hits in the nightcap, while Taryn Morrissey, Rogers, Balcom and Moore all had hits.
  • Miranda, Emily Lutz and Kailee DiGiacco all had two hits each for Cobleskill, while Miranda hit a homer and drove in three runs.
  • Madelynn Orosz earned the complete game shutout for the Tigers with four strike outs and two walks in seven innings.
  • Rogers made her season debut on the mound for the Roos throwing the complete game allowing six earned runs with four walks.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action on Friday for a single NAC game at SUNY Poly at 4 p.m. before a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m.
