Barone & Fuca Record Two Hits Each on Senior Day

Canton, NY – Nick Barone and Alphonse Fuca recorded two hits each but the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped a 15-3 NAC contest against visiting Eastern Nazarene University on Saturday.

The Roos recognized their graduating student-athletes Brendan Finnegan, Mike Henry and Nick Shoemaker in a pregame ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning, four in the third and two more in the fifth to lead 8-0 after five innings.
  • The teams exchanged one run each in the sixth with Fuca scoring after Josue Ortega reached on an error.
  • Canton added a pair of runs in the seventh when Barone laced a two RBI double down the left field line to score Frank Nieto and Edilberto Rosado.
  • ENC concluded the scoring with five runs in the eighth and one in the ninth for the 15-3 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Barone and Fuca had two hits each with Barone driving in two runs. Rosado, Ortega and Danny Santana had one hit each.
  • Anderson Jimenez, Eduardo Labour, Frank Landeiro and Ruddy Vidal had three hits each for the Lions with Vidal driving in four runs.
  • Anthony Ventura earned the win on the mound tossing seven innings allowing two earned runs with a strike out and three walks.
  • Hunter LaValley took the loss allowing six runs with three strike outs and a walk in 2.2 innings.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos contest on Sunday against Plattsburgh State has been canceled. The teams are currently scheduled to play on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Plattsburgh.
