Rogers, Balcom & Morrissey Lead Canton Bats in Sweep at Wells

Aurora, NY – Ace Rogers, Sarah Balcom and Taryn Morrissey combined for 12 hits and 13 RBI and Caitlyn Reed earned two more wins as the Roos picked up their second sweep in three days on Wednesday at Wells College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos jumped out to a quick lead scoring nine runs in the first inning of the opener. Balcom singled home Morrissey, Reed and Andrea Cary scored on wild pitches and Rogers plated Moore and Balcom on a two RBI single. Sophia Gundersen kept the inning going with an RBI single to score Talor Ferrucci, Morrissey doubled home Gundersen and Rogers, and Balcom reached on an error plating Morrisey.
  • Wells got three runs back in the bottom of the first but Canton added another run in the second when Morrissey brought home Ferrucci on a sacrifice fly.
  • The Express got within 10-5 scoring a pair of runs in the fourth.
  • The Roos tacked on two more in the fifth on a pair of RBI triples from Cary and Balcom. The scoring concluded in the sixth when Rogers scored after Morrissey reached on an error.
  • Morrissey led the Roos with two hits, three runs and three RBI. Balcom and Rogers had two hits and two RBI each, while Gundersen also had a multi-hit game.
  • Reed earned the win on the mound allowing four earned runs with a strike out and three walks.
  • Bailey Friot took the loss surrendering seven earned runs with three walks and a strike out in one-third of an inning.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Roos got off to their second fast start plating five more runs in the first inning of the nightcap. Cary ripped an RBI double to left to score Morrissey, Balcom doubled home both Reed and Cary, Balcom scored on a wild pitch and Rogers plated Moore on an RBI ground out.
  • The Express scored two in the second and fourth innings, while Canton added one run each in the third, fifth and sixth innings as well as a four spot in the seventh.
  • Rogers led the Roos with two hits and four RBI, while Balcom had two hits and drove in two runs. Ferrucci and Morrissey had two hits each and Moore had a hit, three walks, three runs and two RBI.
  • Reed earned her second win of the day allowing three earned runs with seven strike outs and three walks. With her seven fanned batters she surpassed the 100 career strikeout mark and now has 102.
  • Christa Koagel took the loss for Wells allowing eight earned runs with six strikeouts and five walks.

The Roos are back in action on Friday when they host SUNY Delhi for a NAC doubleheader at 3 p.m.
