Canton, NY – Sarah Balcom,
Ace Rogers and
Taryn Morrissey combined for 14 hits, 10 runs and seven RBI, while
Caitlyn Reed earned a pair of wins on the mound as the SUNY Canton softball team earned a sweep of Lehman College by scores of 8-7 and 11-5 on Monday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- Lehman got on the board first scoring an unearned run in the top of the first in Monday's opener.
- The Roos responded in the bottom half of the inning when Reed doubled home Morrissey who led off the frame with a double.
- Canton added four runs in the third inning. Balcom placed a two RBI double in the gap to left center plating Morrissey and Reed. Talor Ferrucci followed with a two RBI single to left to score Andrea Cary and Balcom.
- The Roos extended their lead to 7-1 with two more runs in the fourth when Cary scored on a wild pitch and Balcom crossed home after Ferrucci reached on a throwing error.
- Lehman scored three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to get within 7-5 after their at-bats in the sixth.
- Canton added what proved to be a crucial insurance run in the bottom of the sixth as Ferrucci scored Balcom on a sacrifice fly.
- The Lightning added two runs in the seventh and got the tying run to second with two outs but the Roos hung on for the win.
- Balcom and Morrissey led the Roos as they both went 3-for-4 and combined to score five runs and drive in two more. Ace Rogers also recorded a pair of hits and Reed, Cary and Ferrucci had one each.
- Patria Sanchez led the Lightning with three hits, while Lizbeth Perez had two.
- Reed picked up her second win of the season giving up seven runs, only two of which were earned, in seven innings. She struck out seven batters and walked three.
- Jireh Espina took the loss surrendering seven earned runs with three strike outs and four walks in six innings.

GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- Lehman got on the board first with three runs in the first inning of the nightcap and added another run in the second.
- Canton got one back in the bottom of the second when Rogers plated Balcom on an RBI single after Balcom led off the inning with a double.
- The Roos tied things up with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Rogers scored Balcom and Torie Moore on a two RBI single and Sophia Gundersen doubled home Priscilla Soule.
- The hosts took their first lead of the game with three more runs in the fifth. Cary doubled home Reed and Balcom hit a two-run bomb to left center to put the Roos on top 7-4 after five innings.
- The Roos continued to stay hot at the plate adding four more in the sixth inning to blow open an 11-4 lead. Gundersen and Morrisey both scored on wild pitches, Moore doubled home Cary, and Ferrucci plated Balcom on a sacrifice fly.
- The Lightning got one back in their final at-bats on an infield single and RBI, but the Roos closed out another win to earn the sweep.
- Balcom had two hits, a walk, a home run, scored four runs and drove in two. Rogers had a pair of hits and three RBI, while Moore and Gundersen registered two hits, a run and an RBI each. Morrissey had her second multi-hit game of the day and scored once.
- Sanchez, Espina and Kaycee Isley had two hits each for the Lightning.
- Reed earned her second win of the day on the mound allowing five runs with four strike outs and three walks in seven innings.
- Espina took her second loss of the day allowing 10 earned runs with five strike outs and two walks in six innings.
