THE BASICS
- Result: Knox 3, SUNY Canton 2 Â
- Location: Lake Bonny Park Field #1 – Lakeland, FL
- Records:Â Knox (3-4) | SUNY Canton (0-13)
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos got on the board first with a run in the top of the first. Nick Shoemaker led off with a single up the middle and John LaPorte followed with a double to left field. Maxwell Rose brought home Shoemaker on a sacrifice fly to center.
- The Prarie Fire took their first lead of the game with a pair of runs in the second inning on an Etienne Thomas two run shot to left field.
- Knox tacked on an unearned run in the third inning after a runner scored from second with an infield throwing error.
- Both team's pitchers had strong outings holding each other off the scoreboard over the final six innings (five innings if we score).
- The Roos threatened in their final at-bats as Edilberto Rosado and Tom Santo both got hit by pitches and the runners moved up to second and third with one out on a passed ball. Rosado scored on a Shoemaker RBI ground out to first as Santo moved to third but a fly out would end the game as Canton's comeback bid came up just short.
Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Shoemaker and Mike Henry led the Roos with two hits each, while LaPorte and Frank Nieto also recorded hits.
- Jason Clark led the way for Knox with three hits.
- Jeffery Ripka earned the win allowing one run on four hits with five strike outs and three walks in six innings. Lucas Fujii picked up the save as he did not allow a hit and recorded the final two outs with the tying run on base.
- Kayden Guerin took the loss despite another strong outing on the mound as he went the distance throwing eight innings allowing two earned runs with 10 strike outs and a walk.
