Vazquez’s Two Hits Leads Roos on Opening Day in Florida

Davenport, FL – Eliezer Vazquez produced two of SUNY Canton's six hits on the day, but Thomas used three home runs to earn a 7-0 win against the Roos on their first day of games in sunny Florida on Sunday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Terriers opened the scoring with two runs in the opening inning scoring on an RBI ground out and a solo homer from Matt Seymour.
  • Thomas tacked on another run on another solo shot from Seymour to leadoff the fourth and Aaron Young went yard in the sixth inning.
  • The Roos threatened with a two out rally in the fifth getting runners on first and second before a fielder's choice ended the inning.
  • The Terriers added another run in the seventh and two more in the eighth for the 7-0 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Vazquez went 2-for-4 while Nick Shoemaker and Danny Santana both had doubles for the Roos. Nick Barone and Frank Nieto had the other Canton hits on the day.
  • Seymour had a pair of solo homers for Thomas, while Aaron Young was 3-for-3. Tony Meza also drove in a pair of runs.
  • Andrew Pruell picked up the win for Thomas tossing seven innings with eight strike outs and two walks.
  • Hunter LaValley took the loss for Canton surrendering five runs with six strike outs and two walks in 6.1 innings.

The Roos are back in action Monday morning when they square off with St. Norbert College at 9 a.m.
