Roos Honor Seniors in Season Finale Against Mustangs

Canton, NY – Senior Nic Herringer scored his team-high tenth goal of the season, but the SUNY Canton men's hockey team gave up two late goals and dropped a 4-2 decision to SUNY Morrisville on Friday night.

Prior to the game, the Roos honored their five graduating student-athletes Trevor Christopher, Gino DeBlasiis, Nic Herringer, Sebastien Paquette and Lucas Roy.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Curtis Abbott put the Mustangs on the board at 4:28 of the first period, driving between two Roo defenders before beating sophomore goaltender Kelson Hooper glove side-low.
  • Herringer tied the game at one, tipping a shot by freshman Cory Liu past Morrisville goaltender Grant Linville.  The goal was scored at 1:17 of the second with DeBlasiis also assisting on the play.
  • Colton Sipperley put the Roos on top 2-1 at 10:21 of the second, taking a pass from freshman Jackson Drysdale and blowing it past the glove of Linville.  Sophomore Reilly McKinnon earned the secondary assist.
  • Cameron Clark evened the game for the Mustangs at 5:32 of the third, wristing a point-blank shot past Hooper's blocker.
  • It appeared the game was headed to overtime, however Ryan Glazer was able to collect his own rebound and beat Hooper on the near post to put Morrisville ahead 3-2 with just 15 seconds remaining.
  • Clark scored an empty net goal with three seconds left in the game for a 4-2 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Herringer finished the year with 10 goals for the Roos, tied with freshman Niko Schoner for the team lead.
  • The Roos were 0/4 on the power play, the Mustangs did not have a power play opportunity.
  • Canton won a tight battle at the faceoff dot 30-29.  Canton was led by junior Brendan Morrow who won 14.
  • Hooper made 26 saves for the Roos.  Linville made 39 for the Mustangs.

This concludes the Roos season.  Next year the team will be part of the SUNYAC and will play a full league schedule.
