Lenihan, Roos Take #3 Cardinals to The Wire, Honor Seniors

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's hockey team played solid defense, freshman netminder Molly Lenihan made several spectacular saves, and for the second straight day, the Roos held #3 Plattsburgh State to two goals.  Canton scored early in the third period to get within one, but were unable to tie the game late, dropping the SUNYAC contest 2-1.  After the game, the Roos honored their six graduating student-athletes Gracyn Emmerton, Victoria McGarrity, Makayla Young, Desiree Snook, Iida Laitinen and Halle McKinnon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After holding the powerful Plattsburgh offense scoreless for nearly the first two periods, the Roos defense finally bent when Bridget Orr broke in alone, barely sneaking one underneath Lenihan for the game's first goal at 18:47 of the second.
  • Orr scored again, just 28 seconds into the third period, lifting a shot just over Lenihan's right shoulder to put the Cardinals up 2-0.
  • The Roos would push back, generating a number of solid scoring chances before Freshman Anna Pavlasova finally beat Lilla Nease, ripping a shot from the blue line over the goaltender's glove and lighting the lamp.  Freshman Riley Andzel and senior Victoria McGarrity both earned assists.
  • Canton would continue to push throughout the third period and had a late power play opportunity, but the offense could not generate the game-tying goal.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Pavlasova's goal was the first of her career.  McGarrity's assist was her third point in the past three games.
  • The Roos were 0/2 on the power play and the Cardinals were 0/3.
  • Plattsburgh won the faceoff battle 30-17.
  • Lenihan finished the night with 36 saves, Nease made 13 for the Cardinals.
