Vazquez Posts Three Hit Outing as Baseball Closes out Weekend Trip to D.C.

Washington, D.C. – Eliezer Vazquez went 3-for-4 but the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped its final game of the weekend to Albright College in the nation's capital on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams combined for 23 runs and 22 hits in nearly a four hour game on Sunday afternoon.
  • Albright opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the first and Canton responded when Nick Shoemaker scored in the bottom of the frame.
  • The Lions added two more runs in the top of the second before a Mike Henry single scored Brendan Finnegan in the second.
  • Albright took a 7-2 lead after four innings with two more runs in the fourth. The Lions would tack on one more run in the fifth before the Roos rattled off three runs in the fifth.
  • Vazquez scored after Frank Nieto was hit by a pitch and two runs scored after Mike Henry reached on an error.
  • With Canton within 8-5 after five innings the Albright bats exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning to open a 16-5 advantage.
  • The Roos would tack on one more run in the eighth when Vazquez scored on a wild pitch and Albright hit a homer in the ninth for the 17-6 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Vazquez led all players with three hits in the game going 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and an RBI. Shoemaker, Nieto, Henry and John LaPorte had one hit each with Henry driving in a pair of runs.
  • Brendan Stuhltrager, Tommy Lewman, Roman Berretta and Tyler Boccelli all had two hits each for Albright with Boccelli driving in four runs.
  • Nicolas Natalie earned the win in relief for Albright tossing 4.1 innings allowing just one run with five strike outs and five walks in relief.
  • Kayden Guerin took the loss for the Roos surrendering six earned runs with three strike outs and two walks in three innings.



WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action next Saturday when they visit Oneonta for a single game on Saturday at 2 p.m. The teams will then play a doubleheader on Sunday at 12 p.m.
