Canton, NY – Sophomore Joey Schemenauer and freshman Bailey Cote each scored a goal and sophomore Molly Lenihan made 41 saves as the SUNY Canton women's hockey team defeated #5/4 Cortland 2-1.  This was the Roos second win over a team ranked in the top five this season.

THE BASICS
  • Result: SUNY Canton 2 | SUNY Cortland 1
  • Location: Roos House – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (2-3-0, 1-2-0 SUNYAC) | SUNY Cortland (3-1-0, 1-1-0 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first period, the Roos got on the board early in the second.  Working hard behind the net, junior Ashten Morris dug a puck out from between two Cortland defenders to feed Schemenauer in the slot.  Schemenauer's shot deflected off goaltender Molly Georgen and into the net to make the score 1-0 Canton.
  • Midway through the second the Roos doubled their lead when Cote stole a Red Dragon clearing pass and buried a wrister over the blocker of Georgen to put Canton ahead 2-0.
  • Cortland closed the gap at 13:34 of the third period when Grace Karakas beat Lenihan, blocker high, making the score 2-1.
  • With their goaltender pulled, Cortland put on the pressure in the final minute but sophomore Jordan Caroccio made a veteran play trapping the puck in the corner and running out the final seconds to help secure the Roos 2-1 win.
