Williams Records 10 Saves as Roos Tangle with Red Dragons

Canton, NY – Skylar Williams stopped 10 shots on the day but visiting SUNY Cortland used a potent offensive attack on their way to an 8-0 SUNYAC win against the SUNY Canton women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cortland got on the board first in the 24th minute when an offensive player drew a foul in the box. Liz Allen stepped up and put the penalty kick into the lower left corner of goal.
  • Just over a minute later the Red Dragons struck again when Tyla Vuotto played a ball forward into Allen on the run. She dribbled the ball in on the break and placed a shot into the right corner for the 2-0 lead.
  • The Red Dragons held an 11-0 shots on goal advantage in the opening half taking a 2-0 lead to intermission.
  • Cortland scored less than a minute into the second half on Piper Klammer's seventh goal of the season. The visitors tacked on five more second half tallies from Vuotto, Katie Cosenza, Emily Forzaglia, Devyn Kelly and Emma Frohne leading to the 8-0 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Allen led Cortland with two goals and two assists, while Vuotto and Forzaglia had a goal and assist each.
  • The Red Dragons controlled shots (33-1), shots on goal (19-0) and corner kicks (17-0).
  • Kamryn Barnes had the lone shot attempt for Canton.
  • Skylar Williams made 10 saves allowing seven goals over the first 74 minutes, while Mackenzie Ryan played the final 15 plus minutes in relief.
  • Kristen Spendal played the first 65 minutes of the contest for Cortland earning the win, while Nicole Blazo and Mia Hosbach combined for the final 25 minutes.
