Williams Sets Single-Season Saves Record on Senior Day

Canton, NY – Senior Skylar Williams broke her own single-season D-III era program saves record making six saves on the afternoon, but the SUNY Canton women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 SUNYAC decision to visiting SUNY Oneonta on Senior Day on Saturday.
 
Williams now has 165 saves on the season breaking her own single-season saves mark of 161 she set two years ago as a sophomore. Williams also broke the Roos career saves record in her final game of her junior season and has continued to extend that this season as she now has 564 career saves.
 
The Roos recognized their six graduating seniors Mayella Rubin, Morgan Nealon, Skylar Williams, Andrea Cary, Kamryn Barnes and Gabbie Flynn in a pregame ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oneonta got on the board first in the 37th minute when Sara Kealey got a ball into the offense third. She stopped, turned and beat a defender firing a shot into the left corner of net for the goal.
  • Shannon Platt and Gabbie Flynn had shots on goal in the first half, but Oneonta held a 5-2 shots on goal advantage and took a 1-0 lead into intermission.
  • The Red Dragons tacked on their second goal of the game in the 67th minute off a loose ball to the right side of goal. Katie Doherty finished a shot from a sharp angle to add an insurance goal for Oneonta as they would hang on for the 2-0 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Oneonta held the upper hand in shots (16-6), shots on goal (9-2) and corner kicks (10-2).
  • Kealey led Oneonta with three shots on goal, while Hannah McNally and Doherty had two shots on target each.
  • Williams made six saves in the loss, while Amelia Cataldo stopped the only shot she faced in the win over the first 61 minutes. Emily Hardison played the final 29 minutes in relief without facing a shot.

The Roos are back in SUNYAC action on Wednesday when they host SUNY Cortland at 3 p.m.
