Sullivan Records Strong Effort in Road Tilt at #19 Oneonta

Oneonta, NY – Freshman Nolan Sullivan made six first half saves to keep the game scoreless at intermission but SUNYAC power and No. 19 nationally-ranked SUNY Oneonta scored three second half goals to earn a 3-0 conference win against the SUNY Canton men's soccer team on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos held down the strong Oneonta offense the entire first half with a very solid defensive effort that left it a 0-0 stalemate for the break. Sullivan stopped all six shots he faced in the first half as the Red Dragons held a 6-1 shots on goal edge in the opening 45 minutes.
  • At the 48:26 mark, Derek Marques scored on a penalty kick to initiate the scoring on the day.
  • Midway through the second half, Nico Loaiza made it a two goal deficit off an assist from Ali Somow.
  • Nate Massuci capped the scoring for the afternoon, in front of a large Oneonta friendly crowd, with a feed from Dan Costello to make the score 3-0 for the final.

  • Oneonta controlled shots (24-3), shots on goal (11-1) and corner kicks(13-1)
  • Roos goalkeeper Nolan Sullivan turned in an impressive effort stopping eight shots against the nationally-ranked Oneonta squad.
  • Canton's Mason Holmes, Chris Escobar and Brandon Ardon all ripped shots on the host Red Dragons net throughout the day.
  • Marques, Loaiza and Massuci paced the scoring for a 3-0 Oneonta State victory, leading them to the nine win mark on the 2024 season thus far.
