Aniceto, Pabo & Pina Pace Women’s Hoops in Road Tilt vs. Tigers

Cobleskill, NY – Hope Aniceto posted a team-high 16 points but the Roos were unable to overcome an early deficit in a 74-47 road loss at North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West division leader SUNY Cobleskill (18-1) on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts jumped out to 17-7 lead midway through the opening quarter and led by as many as 15 at 24-9 before Canton closed the stanza with three straight points to get within 24-12 after one.
  • The Tigers extended their advantage to 18 early in the second quarter starting the quarter on a 9-3 run, but the Roos would outscore Cobleskill by eight the rest of the period to get within 38-28 at intermission.
  • Cobleskill started the third quarter on a 13-1 run to take control of the game up 51-29 just over midway through the frame. Canton was never able to get within striking distance in the second half as the Tigers pulled away.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Aniceto led Canton with 16 points hitting eight of her nine free throws, while Sierra Pabo was the only other player in double figures with 10 points. Jayda Pina chipped in eight points and nine rebounds, while Samantha Dayter and Emma Perez had four each.
  • Antonia May led Cobleskill with 20 points, while Cara Walker had 19 points and eight rebounds. Logan Thayne finished with a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds.
  • The Tigers shot 44% from the field and 47% from three while holding Canton to marks of 25% and 23%, respectively.
  • The 47 points were the second fewest this season for the Roos as they scored 44 earlier this season against the Tigers.
  • Cobleskill had the upper hand in rebounds (47-40), points in the paint (32-20) and bench points (17-6). Canton had an edge in second chance points (11-6).
